Bar Art, part 1

pauly-sketch.jpg

Sketching on napkins or scraps of paper in a bar is a very long-standing and common tradition.  We see it fairly regularly, and apparently it happens everywhere.  (Try searching on “bar napkin art” and you’ll see what I mean.)  You may have even engaged in the practice yourself in an attempt to impress, entertain, or seduce someone, or in an effort to document some brilliant ethanol-fueled idea.

The drawing above was done last month by a gentleman named Pauly.  I wasn’t working that night, but Kaitlin, who was, thought we should show off his work.  I like this one because it has a cool 1940’s feel, and because it shows Doreen in all of her voluptuous glory.

If you have an artistic talent we’d love to see it.  We’ll save a napkin for you.

Flying Guy

I finally got this picture of our good friend Bob with his signature drink, the Flying Guy.  I think he might be our only customer to create a drink that found its way into our point-of-sale system as a regular item.  I like it because it’s simple and balanced, and because it’s popular.

To make it pour one and one half ounces of Vox vodka and one ounce of Malibu Rum into an ice filled pint glass, top it off with pineapple juice, and stir.  Yes, another decent vodka would work, but Bob likes Vox so that’s what we use.  Garnish with a lime wedge and you’re done.

If you have an idea for a cocktail we can add to our armamentarium then bring your friends in and we’ll see what we can do with it.

Oogy wawa!

It’s pronounced “oogee-wawa”, and it’s the Zulu phrase used as a toast.  If you’re thinking that Zulu isn’t too widely spoken in your neighborhood, here are some other ways to offer Cheers!

Kippis!  (Finnish, pronounced “KEEP-us”)

Sláinte!  (Irish, “Slawn-che”)

Kampai!  (Japanese, “Kam-pie”)

Živjeli!  (Croatian, “ZHEE-vi-lee”)
