Almost every venue that serves martinis has featured a chocolate version this week since Valentine’s Day was Monday. But the enjoyment of chocolate romance and tasty desert cocktails shouldn’t be restricted to one time of the year.
We’ve been offering an easy-to-make Chocolate Covered Cranberry Martini that’s been well received. Cranberries are Wisconsin’s number one fruit crop in value and acreage, so this libation seems perfectly appropriate for the Northwoods. Here’ how to prepare it at home:
Shake one ounce of chocolate liqueur (we like Godiva), one ounce of chocolate vodka, and two ounces of cranberry juice on ice until very cold. “Very cold” means your finger is starting to freeze to the shaker lid. Strain into a chilled martini glass, and garnish with chocolate shavings from that candy bar you’ve been trying to resist. The next step of romance is up to you.

In anticipation of the Packers triumph in Super Bowl XLV, fellow bartender Kaitlin and I were serving Packer Sodas to our customers at the bar last Saturday night. This is an adult beverage, and as you would expect, it’s green. It proved to be pretty popular… except of course with the Bears loyalists who were there. There are Green Bay fans, however, that will be celebrating the win until Super Bowl XLVI kicks off, so we thought we should share the formula.
You’ll need white chocolate syrup for this, which isn’t as exotic as it sounds - I picked it up in the coffee isle at the grocery store. Pour two ounces of it into your ice filled shaker, add one ounce of vanilla vodka and one ounce of green crème de menthe, and shake until very cold. Strain the contents into a tall, ice filled glass. Add club soda until the glass is almost full, then add a tablespoon or so of half and half. Stir, and savor the victory.
With no disrespect to our patrons who live south of the Cheese Curtain, GO PACK!
